Summit trip to the Brocken
Since July 1992, guests have again been able to climb the highest peak in northern Germany with around 700 hp steam engines. As pure adhesion railways, i.e. without gears or similar aids, the steam locomotives master this several times a day. The train can cover its steepest stretch to the Brocken in about 50 minutes from Drei-Annen-Hohne station.
Before you reach the Brockenbahnhof, which with its 1125 meters of altitude is the highest station of all German adhesion narrow gauge railways, you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding national park. Even in winter, a train ride in the snowy Upper Harz is a special experience: snow-covered fir forests, snow-blown plateaus and the clear mountain air on the Brocken invite you to linger and relax.
